Our aim: to help students explore, share, and (re)define what German Studies means.

Augenblick and the German Studies Undergraduate Research Showcase were established in 2021. Both initiatives are funded by the UBC Department of Central, Eastern, and Northern European Studies, with extensive support from the German Studies programs at the University of Victoria and the University of Washington Seattle.

Augenblick is a student-run and faculty-supported initiative. It is a centrepiece in the “Putting German Studies into Action” component of the UBC German Studies undergraduate curriculum.

  • Augenblick: Undergraduate Journal

From essays and poems to videos, graphic novels and songs, Augenblick gives students an opportunity to publish work in a German Studies academic journal.

We accept multilingual work, and encourage students from all backgrounds, years, and disciplines to submit their work.

  • German Studies Undergraduate Research Showcase

GSURS provides students the opportunity to engage in stimulating conversations and have a relaxed platform to receive constructive feedback on their work.

In addition to presentations, we also host talks on timely topics by diverse faculty from our three host universities: UBC, UVIC, and UW.
