In German, Augenblick translates roughly to “moment” or refers to a “short passage of time.”

We conceive of Augenblick, the journal, as a venue in which student ideas about German Studies find expression. What moments of your vast German Studies journey would be good candidates for an article to be published in the journal? We’d love to feature this work!

We conceive of German Studies as a broad field of scholarship and creative practice that relates to language, culture, politics, history, any combination of these or any other aspects that make sense to you. In this regard, we welcome transnational, comparative, and other approaches to German Studies.

As a publication, we aim to be as inclusive and barrier-free as possible. We accept submissions from students of all years, disciplines, experiences, and backgrounds. Though housed at the University of British Columbia, Augenblick welcomes submissions from students anywhere.

Your work does not have to be perfect or necessarily follow “academic conventions” in order to be selected. What we are hoping for is thoughtful engagement with German, in whatever format that looks like for you. The editorial process will then help refine and support your contribution in whatever form necessary.

We accept submissions throughout the year.

For more information about the submission process, please consult the submission guidelines. If we can provide any accommodations or answer any specific concerns during this process, please let us know via email at ubc.augenblick@ubc.ca.

Willkommen.
