Our History.

In Fall 2021, a team consisting of Dr. Ervin Malakaj (UBC German Studies), Emilie Kneifel, and Gabrielle Bonifacio (UBC German Studies Program Undergraduate Assistants) began developing programs intended to engage students and support the thriving UBC German Studies program.

The two initiatives that emerged—Augenblick: An Undergraduate Journal in German Studies and the German Studies Undergraduate Research Showcase—were devised to connect with students and promote undergraduate research and creative work relating to German Studies broadly conceived.

  • Augenblick is an undergraduate academic journal published by the UBC German Studies program.

The journal provides an opportunity for students to share their work. It also provides students experience working in publishing and broader community work.

  • GSURS is an annual showcase for all students at UBC, UVIC and UW, whose project relates in some way to German Studies.

The showcase provides students an opportunity to network, share their work, and get feedback from peers and professors.
